Erik, The Opera GhostBorn in a small village outside of Rouen, France, and unlike any child ever seen before, Erik was born with a strange deformity that left him resembling a living corpse. He was immediately considered to be a monster. But monsters are created, not born, and it was through the cruel treatment of man that turned him into the malicious person he is today.
He is a skilled ventriloquist, a masterful trickster, a fantastic architect, and moreso a grandiose musician. He is a meticulous man, a perfectionist especially when it comes to music. One wrong note causes him to cringe and throw a small fit. He strongly believes in the proverbs that his Uncle taught him, and tries to live by them. He is highly intelligent, and can speak many languages. Knowledge that can further his abilities as a master trickster especially entice him. He is a bit paranoid, and always has an escape route planned. During his final years living in the cellars of the Opera Garnier, Erik became obsessed with a young soprano by the name of Christine, and tutored her vocally. He hoped that by doing this, she would learn to love him. In a way she had, but it was never true love, and it eventually drove Erik mad.
Although he comes across as being a villain, he really just wants to be loved for himself, and hopefully not have to blow up half of Paris to do so.
Chelsey Rockwell
Chelsey was born in Edmonton, Canada, and because of the cold climates always wanted to travel. She studied many different locations around the world, including their cultures, religions and histories. Because of this, she decided that she wanted to become an archaelogist, and has a particular penchant for the dead. Her boyfriend, Alex, was the first to introduce her to the story of Erik, the Phantom of the Opera, and she was immediately enthralled. Chelsey hopped the first flight to Paris, determined to solve the mystery between the novel she had read, and the history that had been recorded.
Chelsey wears a bit of a front. Unable to obtain the career she always wanted, she settled with working temporary jobs to make ends meet. This lead to her to have difficulty in remembering names and being awkward with strangers. She tries to leave the best impression she can, putting on a smile and acting completely out of character. At home, she’s a normally bitter person, regretting the direction her life has been traveling, and swearing as much as proper grammatical sentence structure can allow.
Regardless, she comes across as a very nice person, and she tries to live up to the ideal. Perhaps she is a perfect match for the abused Erik, but she wouldn't recognize it even if it was written right in front of her.
Christine de Chagny (nee Daaé)
At one point wealthy, Christine was born in Sweden and raised by her father who was a celebrated violinist. Their fortune dwindled and they moved in with the Valerius family. Shortly after, Christine's father passed away. Christine is a sweet girl, very naïve, but she cares for those around her. She first began her life at Palais Garnier as a chorus girl, but Erik fell in love with her and became her tutor. With the title of Diva came the attitude as well, and Christine became accustomed to the lavish attention she recieved. Sometimes she would lead men on without realizing. This would prove disastrous with Erik, as he believed she truly loved him and would kidnap her to make her his bride.
During her childhood, she had a summer romance with the young Raoul de Chagny. When Raoul came back into Christine’s life during her rise to fame in the opera, he immediately fell in love with her all over again. It was Raoul, with the help of the Daroga, who would rescue Christine from Erik's clutches. Raoul and Christine were married and lived out the rest of their lives in blissful matrimony, after Erik begrudgingly allowed them to do so.
Christine is not a fan of surprises, she prefers to either keep things hidden or blurt them out unceremoniously. She loves the finer things, and will always secretly long for the luxurious items even when she cannot have them. Though she is not petty, she would not do well in a moneyless situation.
Count Raoul de Chagny
Raoul has always been somewhat spoiled. He grew up in a family with two sisters who always lavished attention on him for being the baby. He greatly looked up to his older brother, Philippe, and has always remained very close to him. In his teens he joined the navy, and with military training matured substantially, which to some would seem like not much as Raoul still tends to act like a child. He tends to whine when he doesn’t get his way, however Christine finds this to be an endearing trait and an excuse to dote on him.
Raoul met Christine when he was a young boy, and was immediately infatuated with her. Later as an adult, He courted her with a firey and possessive passion, which was in turn rivaled strongly by Erik’s. Often, Raoul felt he placed second to the elusive man in the opera, but he was determined to eventually steal Christine away, and after a near death experience in the cellars, he succeeded.
A level-headed man, with a strong sense for finances, Raoul approaches problematic situations with a logical mind. He’s an excellent shot with a gun, and a masterful swordsman, as the Chagnys believed that traditional training was a privilege. He has a penchant for fast food, especially McDonalds, and may secretly have a nervous eating disorder.
The Daroga
The Daroga is a very stern man, brought on by a life of hardships and horrors. He watched his young wife die, and shortly after his only son took ill. Daroga was the chief of police in Persia, which lead him down a dark and violent road he would rather not travel. The punishment for crime normally led to death, or dismemberment, and he was the one expected to carry these out on a regular basis. However, he often managed to find a way out of his duties, earning him a reputation for being unusually kind in Mezanderan.
Erik and the Daroga share an awkward friendship, at best. Erik had even saved the life of his son once, and for that, the Daroga felt forever indebted to him. But the Daroga’s weak stomach led him to feel horribly uneasy around Erik, for Erik seemed to have no sense of right and wrong, and absolutely no remorse for murder. It was this feeling that made the Daroga assume the role of guardian over Erik, not necessarily to protect him, but to protect the people around him. Daroga took pity on the poor Viscount Chagny when he realized that Erik had fallen in love with the young soprano diva, Christine. Because he knew that as long as Erik was around, Raoul would never be free to love Christine as she so obviously loved him. So, against Erik’s warnings, the Daroga became once more involved in business otherwise not his own and aided Raoul in rescuing Christine from Erik’s clutches.
Daroga is a very stoic man, and remains the most level-headed. Although he warns against becoming involved with the living, he ends up being the largest hypocrite of all when he falls in love with a living girl named Azadeh and begins to build a life with her. He is determined to see Erik to his final rest, by any means necessary.
Alexander Román
Alex is the youngest of three and born in Puerto Rico, but due to his father’s military career his family had to move around frequently. So before he could even speak, he was brought into Europe. Most notably, they lived in Paris for a time, where Alex would cry almost constantly. Because of this, they moved to the United States and finally settled down. As a boy, Alex had the habit of keeping to himself. His father wasn’t around, he never really bonded with his sisters, and he had no friends. It was his mother that inspired him to start drawing, and he eventually became an animator and made a career out of it.
His quiet social life turned him into habitual internet surfer. It was here, online, that he met Chelsey and fell in love. During the course of their relationship, he shared with her the story of The Phantom of the Opera, which he secretly loved and sought inspiration from. Delighted at her enthusiasm over his passion, he planned a trip for two to Paris to propose marriage to her in box five. To his surprise, she went to Paris without him.
While Alex did overcome his shy tendencies, he still remains a fairly quiet person. Polite and well mannered, there’s an air to him that may lead one to believe he knows more than what he’s letting on. He never prefers to talk about himself beyond certain things and often changes the subject. His habit of retreating into himself while troubling issues arose was one he never broke out of, and is one that has sometimes led him into trouble. Alex always likes to believe that his heart is in the right place, but nobody’s perfect.
Thanh Nguyen
Born in Vietnam, Thanh immigrated to Canada with her parents when she was a very little child. She grew up in Calgary, Alberta, a popular and well-loved sweetheart. After she graduated high school, she immediatley traveled to Vancouver to attend Art School. One day in class, Azadeh and Thanh were wary at the presence of a strange new girl who was sitting in a corner of the room, crying. Thanh, being the brave and friendly person she is, walked over to the girl and invited her to sit with them. The girl was relieved to have found a friend during such a terrible time, and Thanh and the girl became friends immediately. In fact, Chelsey, as she found her name to be, became like a second mother to her while she was alone in her new city.
Thanh is a joyful spirit, who is not afraid to celebrate all that life has to offer. She is a natural born flirt, and this often gets her into trouble. She is a lot like Christine, in her own right, but Thanh is not afraid to tell someone off when they go too far. Thanh loves fashion, and she shares the passion with her best friends, Heather and Azadeh.
Thanh has an incredibly huge crush on Raoul, and this makes Christine insanely jealous.
Heather Farago
Heather grew up in Calgary, Alberta, in a loving home with a loving family. In fact, by literary standards, Heather had the perfect life. But for unknown reasons, Heather became fascinated with purchasing Breast Cancer Awareness products. If she lost someone close to her from the disease, it is unknown, for Heather tends to hide her feelings. She does not like confrontation, and prefers to try to divert a crisis from even happening to begin with. She is a devout Christian, and tries to live her life by her beliefs. She loves to see people smile, and will go out of her way to make people happy.
Heather met Chelsey, Thanh and Azadeh while in Art School. She was studying Fashion Design with Thanh and Azadeh, and happened to share a few classes with Chelsey who was studying Graphic Design. They all immediately clicked, and even though she had her own apartment in downtown Vancouver, she spent most of her time at Chelsey and Thanh's apartment in New Westminster. When Heather wins a scholarship to study at an exclusive fashion school in Paris, she refuses to attend unless she can bring her partners, Thanh and Azadeh. The three of them travel to Paris in style, and are surprised to find Chelsey already there when they arrive.
She tries to remain somewhat withdrawn from the drama that the ghosts have stirred up, but she can't help but get involved when she thinks her friends are in trouble.
Heather is a go-getter, and will not stop until she takes the fashion industry by storm! But she is somewhat lonely, and may be distracted by love... if it happens to crop up.
Azadeh Kasperast
Azadeh is a very outgoing girl, and she makes sure everyone knows it! She grew up in North Vancouver, and remains as true to her Iranian heritage as she possibly can. She studied fashion in Art School, where she met Chelsey, Thanh and Heather. They've all remained close friends ever since.
Azadeh knows that she is hot stuff, and she flaunts what she was born with. She is by no means vain, just proud, and not afraid to share her opinion of other attractive people with them. In fact, at first, she had a small crush on Alex. But when she met the Daroga in Paris, she was instantly smitten. He's an older man, and Azadeh has always had a thing for older men, so the Daroga fit right in. She finds him adorable in his old fuddy-duddy ways, and wouldn't hesitate to start a life with him, if he could only work up the guts to ask her.
She is very fashionable, and everything she has must be up to date and in style.
Grant Gordon
Grant is Grant, is how his friends would describe him. Grant is an odd duck to say the least, but he's an amazingly likable odd duck. He's outgoing, talented and handsome to boot. He's a soccer player, Video game designer and he's fully trained in Kendo. You would think that would be enough, but he's a surprisingly complicated person.
Grant met Chelsey back in high school, where according to sources, she threw a desk on his head... although this has never been concluded as anything but speculation on Grant's part. Despite this awkward beginning, they became friends in Japanese class.
Little is known past this.
Kevin Collins
Born and Raised in Canada, Kevin has a rather sad past. He's a fantastic friend, if you can get to know him, but he gives a very gruff first impression. Kevin was overweight when he was younger, and this caused him to believe that no one would ever love him. He lost the weight playing Dance Dance Revolution, but kept the mindset. This drove him to be a bit of a player. He dated many girls, breaking hearts and forgetting names. But he is really a nice boy under it all, and hopes to one day find the love of his life.
He moved to Paris on a whim, having his job at Zaria transfer him there. He has a hatred of fezes which is newly found to him, because of a bizarre encounter with the Daroga.
He is somehow connected to the living clique, but it is unknown at this time what that connection is...
François Cailleux
Erik's Mother, Madeleine's older brother, François found himself the head of the household at an early age, taking care of his little sister when their mother passed away and their father was gone on business almost constantly. Being ten years older than Madeleine, he had more time with their mother and so he quotes her often. He was raised with superstition and proverbs, so he is a library full of sayings and lore.
He passes this knowledge onto Erik when Madeleine essentially refuses to raise her son properly. And even though he could not be around the young boy as often as he would have liked, he made sure to leave a lasting impression on Erik as the only positive influence in his life. However, this may have been skewed due to François' awkwardly chosen words. Gems of kindly advice would often fall deaf on Erik because of the way François would phrase it. Erik grew up believing François was a cruel uncle who purposefully mortified and tormented him.
François is a very kind man, who tried to stay in contact with his strange nephew, but could not keep up with the elusive Erik. He died of old age, surrounded by his children, who loved to listen to stories of their bizarre cousin.
